An 8-year-old boy, LeAndre Jeremiah Desronvil, a third-grade student at Palm Beach Maritime Academy, was playing a game of “chicken” with oncoming vehicles on busy street when he was struck and killed Wednesday night.
A family friend says he may have been coaxed into playing the dangerous game by some older children he was with when the incident took place.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office, the group of children who were with LeAndre ran away after the boy was struck.
Among the children that were with LeAndre was his 12-year-old sister, the friend said.
LeAndre was hit by a 2017 Chevrolet Colorado in the center lane of three eastbound lanes.
The driver of the Chevrolet that struck LeAndre remained at the scene and would not be charged.
The family friend said that LeAndre was an outgoing, creative child who loved playing sports, particularly football and basketball.
A gofundme account has been set up for baby LeAndre.
