What you need to know about Devin Patrick Kelley
Devin Patrick Kelley, 26, a young white male, was identified as armour-clad, gun-wielding gunman that massacred 26 worshippers at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas.
He is from New Braunfels, Texas and lives in a barndominium on a wood property behind a cattle guard.
He is a licensed security guard for a prominent water park. His motives for the shooting is unclear. His background includes Bible school teaching.
Devin Kelley is accused of killing 26 people and injuring many others. The victims range from 5 – 72 year olds.
Kelley was once a member of the US Air Force and served in logistics readiness at Holloman Air Force in New Mexico staring in 2010 according to Air Force Spokeswoman, Ann Stefanek.
He was court martialled in 2012 for two counts of Article 128 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, assaulting his wife and child. He received bad conduct discharge, confined for 12 months and reduction in rank to basic airman.
He purchased a Ruger AR-556 rifle in April 2016 from Academy Sports and Outdoors store in San Antonio. It is not known if this was the same gun used in the shooting.
The shooter in Facebook preached atheism. The facebook page is now deleted.
On his LinkedIn page, Kelley was a VBS teacher aid for VBS Kingsville FBC. VBS stands for Vacation Bible School. His LinkedIn page also showed that he served in the US Air Force right after High School from 2009 – 2013. His page also said that he attended New Braunfels High School from 2003 – 2009 and is a hardworking dedicated person.
Devin Patrick Kelley got married in April 2014 to a woman who reportedly taught at the church. He was 23 when he got married and she was 19.
Devin Patrick Kelley was found dead in his car from a gunshot wound. It is unclear if it was a self-inflicted gunshot or a neighbour’s.
Texas Governor, Greg Abbott called the incident the largest mass shooting in the state’s history.
