A taxi driver, 40, picked up a drunk teenage girl, 17, from the street, took her to McDonald’s then drove her to his house where he raped her, a court has heard.
The cabbie, Katar Shahin, told the girl he would take her home for free, after the teen said she had no money. But instead he took her to a McDonald’s restaurant on the pretext of being nice by buying her a can coke and food for himself before driving her to his house in the Hafod area of Swansea and sexually assaulted her.
When they got to his apartment, he told her he can’t leave her alone in the cab and she acquiesced.
He offered her alcohol but she refused and he tried to kiss and fondle her. She resisted but began to feel drowsy and passed out.
When she got round, she remembered waking up naked with a used condom on the floor. Shahin later drove her into town, leaving her outside the Full Moon pub in High Street.
Katar Shahin denied rape, claiming the vulnerable girl was a prostitute and he had paid her £20 for sex. But he was convicted of rape following a trial at Swansea Crown Court.
