Two men are being hailed as heroes for chasing the shooter, Devin Kelley, who killed at least 26 people at a Texas church.
As the massacre unfolded, an armed resident who has been identified as Stephen Willeford, 55, grabbed his gun and engaged the suspect.
Stephen Willeford was helped by another local resident, Johnnie Lagendorff, who was driving past the church as the shooting happened.
Johnnie Langendorff told local media he had chased the gunman after seeing “two men exchanging gunfire”.
“The shooter… fled in his vehicle, the other gentleman came and said we need to pursue him,” he said.
The attack happened at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, a small town in Wilson County.

Johnnie Langendorff said the gunman eventually lost control of his vehicle and crashed.
